This was one of the worst dining experiences ever. First, they failed to inform us of a fixed pre fix menu even when calling us to confirm our reservation and finally informing us when we were finally seated. Next, despite a 7:30 PM reservation we weren't seated and received our appetizers until 8:30 PM. The appetizers were so so at best. Then the entrees were not delivered until after 9:00. I've had better filets at Texas Roadhouse, better lobster at Aunt Annie's lobster shack. The service was slow and unhelpful. They ran out of the dessert we wanted and would not make other accommodations other than just offering the remaining desserts that were available. For $100+ per person (no alcohol) this was an expensive and poor tasting disaster. Extremely dissatisfying for Roys.

Although it was Christmas and expected to be crowded, the restaurant was understaffed and not prepared for the holiday crowd. As a result, we were seated on tine at 7pm but didn’t receive our entree until 8:15pm. Also, we were originally seated outside where there were heaters but two of the main heaters were inoperable. We were so cold, we had to move indoors. For a $200 meal, I expect much higher standards.

Ended up here because Christmas Eve dining options are very limited and we were staying at the Marriott. We showed up at 630 and front of the house told us an hour wait and gave us a convoluted explanation on indoor vs outdoor seating (basically indoor wasn’t guaranteed?). We ended up booking the standard option on open table for an hour later. When we arrived at our reservation time, we had to wait another 10-15 mins to get seated, so the meal did not get off to a strong start. After we ordered, the food took a long time to arrive. We ordered two sushi rolls (Haleakala sunrise and the other one with wagyu) and an entree (scallops) - everything tasted mediocre, especially for the price. Sushi rolls had way too much rice relative to everything else and the one with wagyu tasted a bit strange (think it’s because the beef was seasoned with salt and pepper and we aren’t accustomed to pepper in sushi… so perhaps a mistake in ordering on our part). And this spot missed on small things related to service - our party was 3 people and they didn’t take away the 4th table setting, water wasn’t refilled, pen didn’t come with check, etc. Overall there are better options elsewhere (or arguably Gaslamp is touristy but at least cheaper alternatives for the same caliber of food/service).

The food was great. It took 45 minutes to get 2 appetizers and one hour for the salad and main dishes, but only because I complained !!! But the food was great !!!

I was disappointed in that I indicated on my reservation note we were celebrating a birthday. I noticed at least one other patron received a nice birthday card from Roy's. I don't know the specifics on how their reservation was made, but we didn't get one. I thought the information we placed in notes for our open table reservation was read by the restaurant staff, this seems to indicate maybe they don't pay attention. A little disappointing if true

The food at Roy’s was great. However the service was spotty. My martini was ordered “very dirty”, but was delivered without olive brine. I asked to add it, and was told that they would be happy to do so, but I did not get it until the entree arrived. We sat down to dirty knives. I had to ask the water service person for iced tea because we had not seen the server for several minutes. Had I seen the server earlier, we would have enjoyed ordering wine, but by then been were ordering dessert. All minor things, but you expect more from a restaurant where you are paying well over $150/person.
