Food was absolutely delicious. Our server Tatiana knew everything about the menu and was great at leading us in the right direction for our group. The fish in the sushi was super fresh and the dishes were innovative. The beef was tender and the shrimp perfectly cooked. Flavors were on point. We will definitely return!

We have been coming to Sumomaya for years and have always enjoyed the food and experience. Last night was the complete opposite!!!!! From the server to the manager there was absolutely no regard for a customer and his/her requests especially as it pertains to life threatening food allergies. It was all what we CAN’t do for you and not how we can make something work. However for years my daughter has dined at Sumomaya and her allergies have always been accommodated and there has NEVER been an issue. Why was it different this time? Is the current staff not educated on the severe nature of food allergies and unwilling to make special accommodations? Is the staff new and inexperienced ? I’d like to be made aware of what has changed and what protocol Sumamaya has to address their customers with allergies. My daughter ordered shishito peppers which have been typically dairy/egg free - not this time! Sadly, my daughter up in the ER and was seconds away from being intubated because of the severity of her reaction. A horrifying experience and we are so fortunate she pulled through!!!! This could have been avoided if precautions and /or ANY care we taken in regard to my daughters requests. My hope is that your staff will be educated to the severity of allergies and learn to take them seriously. There are so many fine dining establishments that take great care and accommodate guests with allergies. Why your restaurant cant anymore is quite astonishing!!!!. My hope is that you train and educate your staff to take these matters very seriously as it can be a matter of life or death!

We were excited to try Sumo Maya. The only available seats for a reservation were high tops. Not my favorite but we wanted to try the food. We arrived 10 minutes early for our reservation and had to wait the full 10 minutes to be seated, which was ok. We were seated next to the bar where servers get drinks. Not the best spot but oh well. It was really dark and our oil candle would not stay lit. We literally could not see our food! It’s a known issue at this table because the breeze kept blowing it out and our server seemed to know about it. We turned our phone light into a lamp and it helped. The table was very small which is not conducive to a restaurant that encourages sharing lots of small plates! It was a challenge to eat because of that and it being dark. I would understand being seated here if the restaurant was full and busy but there were 2 nice 4 top tables that were not seated the whole time we were there! That would have been more comfortable and easier to eat at a different table. And the candles stayed lit at those tables! Our server was friendly but not very attentive which really took away from the experience because the food was really good. After appetizers, he took my plate and chop sticks, saying he’d return with fresh ones. Well, the next courses started coming and I had no way to eat! I asked the second expediter for a plate and fork after waiting and not seeing our server. He was slow to check on us when our food kept coming which was disappointing as I wanted another drink! We ordered ice cream and coffee for desert. The ice cream was gone long before the coffee arrived and he never checked on us again! I finally had to ask another server if we could get our check. Being left at the end of your meal seems to be a thing now and not a good last impression. I think we’d eat here again because the food was great but we’ll probably sit at the bar. Chairs looked a lot more comfy and service looked attentive there! Hopefully it will be!

We liked everything about the dining experience with one exception. The restaurant is extremely noisy. We were sitting a few feet apart at our table and had a hard time hearing each other. I realize the owners might be intending to create an energetic atmosphere but there are simple changes that could be implemented to reduce the noise level to a reasonable level.
