"The Canny Man's in Morningside is an Edinburgh institution established in 1871 and passed down through 5 generations of the Kerr family. As famous chef Rick Stein said 'The Canny Man's is the best pub in the world.'
The establishment is well known far and wide for it’s quirky nature and ‘never’ changing décor. The interior sees every nook and cranny filled with everything from moose heads to muskets, sheet music to stuffed animals. A genuinely one of a kind bar and restaurant. The restaurant specialises in the best Scottish produce with a strong focus on local suppliers. Alongside this they have a well stocked gantry of over a 200 malt whiskies and a large wine list. The Canny Man's is very much a unique experience in Edinburgh and not to be missed."

Very Good as usual but our table was in a weird cubby hole this time not really a space to put a table. Otherwise I would rate a 5.

We had the Sunday roast. The service was fine. However, the meat was slightly tough. The dish was unexciting due to lack of accoutrements such as horseradish sauce etc but the main complaint is that the food was cold. Not helped by being served on a cold plate. Overall disappointing.

Noticed some bad reviews but thought maybe not reliable, I was wrong, poor service, poor food. Laying white table cloths just doesn’t cut it, more effort required, very disappointing for my birthday lunch

We asked for a quiet table and got it which makes such a difference to me as I’m hard of hearing and enableme to properly enjoy the wonderful experience of dining at the Canny Mans again.

Excellent food and drink in quirky Morningside hostelry Unfortunately, there was a complete absence of any attempt at inter-active customer service, starting from perhaps one of the coolest welcomes we have experienced anywhere. We both felt that the staff felt that our presence was an unwelcome interruption into their day and any attempts at dialogue were rebuffed . Several friends had warned us of the pub's unwelcoming approach to customers and it was very disappointing that they were proved correct. It's a long time since we'd been there as we wanted to give it another go as the surroundings are really interesting and there's a very decent range of beers/spirits on offer. It may be a long time until, we return...

Greeting & service excellent very friendly & helpful. The toppings on the open sandwich were rather meagre. So not really value for money. I’d certainly go back but be more careful about what I choose. A very pleasant place to have lunch.

Really liked this place. Risotto was amazing and their sticky toffee pudding was top notch. It has a great ambiance and friendly staff. Highly recommend.
