I wouldn’t suggest this pub for vegetarians, my wife ordered a soufflé as a main from the starter menu but was told she couldn’t have that as a main, so we ordered 2 of the pithivier. I am not sure what arrived but it was not like any Pithivier I have had, more like raw pasta (and I don’t mean al dente!) Suffice to say we had to leave that, we were asked was there anything else they could get for us, this time my wife was allowed to leave the soufflé! Which she did enjoy. We noted that we were charged in full for the two meals we couldn’t eat, but not surprised, we were however a tad surprised that they charged for the soufflé as they asked was there something else they could get for us. We also had to pay a service charge on top! I will say though that the pub itself is lovely, nice small rooms with lovely fires.

We had just returned from family trip and decided to have dinner out rather than cook, so we dropped down to the Duncombe Arms it turned out to be a good decision. We had he Venison Shepard's Pie which was very good and a glass of red from their excellent wine list. It was a Monday night so very quiet but an enjoyable evening.

We were regular visitors at the Duncombe Arms, however hadn’t been for a while due to family commitments. We were unfortunately disappointed after our visit today, restaurant was very busy, our drinks and food order were taken very quickly, however the food arrived before the drinks, which we had to chase up whilst we ate. The food was not very warm, potatoes were definitely reheated, very school dinnerish difficult to cut and not very warm, clearly cooked earlier in the day and microwaved. Such a shame as when we last visited food was always good, often drinks were delayed but we ignored that because the food was good. We were scrunched into a corner, access wasn’t easy for the passing of food and drinks, everything had to be handed over the heads of our party. The bill was expensive, especially considering the quality of the food we paid £200 for 4 people, 2 courses each, 1 j20, 2 glasses of rose champagne, one cola and one beer, 5 cups of coffee. Very disappointing experience, especially as it was a first visit for our friends.
