Located within Denver’s historic Tramway Building, originally opened in 1911, The Nickel pays homage to the space that was once used to collect fare from customers riding its resident streetcars: a nickel. Just as the building in which The Nickel is housed has a storied past, the dishes found on the menu at The Nickel all have a story. We proudly serve menus that incorporate the highest quality ingredients from farmers, ranchers, distillers and craft producers, and is comprised of dishes that are easily recognizable and feel simple, but eat complex.

Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
The Nickel at Hotel Teatro offers a "delightful atmosphere" and "outstanding food, wine, service, and atmosphere." Known for its proximity to the DCPA, it provides a convenient pre-theater dining option. While the menu is somewhat limited, the "excellent" service and unique dishes like the Eggplant Mushroom dish and Colorado Benedict stand out. Despite some mixed reviews regarding portion size and consistency, many patrons praise it as a "true hidden Denver gem."

Almost 30 minutes late being seated. Only one server for at least 10 tables. In their defense - undergoing renovation so set up in lounge. But they could be much better prepared.

This is a tough one since the actual Nickel was closed and the restaurant was essentially moved into the hotel's bar. I have to tell you that sitting in the bar was much cozier and fun. The food was incredible too. I did feel like our poor waitress was a little overwhelmed, but she was still attentive and very good.

The food was great and the ambiance wonderful. The service was a touch slow and, for being so close to the performing arts complex, they didn’t seem concerned if we had show tickets or not. Plus, the actual restaurant was under remodel so we ate in the hotel lobby, which was lovely and cozy, but it would have been nice to know ahead of time the adjustment. All in all a lovely experience and good food.

When we arrived at The Nickle, we were told that our reservations were not being honored because the restaurant was closed because of a leaking ceiling, that happened that morning.. It was further explained that the system was not supposed to take reservations, but was down. Since we made the reservations the night before, how was the system supposed to know that there would be a leaky ceiling the next day? I believe the seating hostess was confused. We were told we could find seats in the Library (the cocktail lounge, and have drinks and bar food. Which we did. Service was slow due to lack of help, but the two servers who were there did their best, so we could hardly find fault with them. The food was good as were the very expensive drinks. We will try again, when the restaurant is finally open and hope that all is back to normal.

I had a reservation for the Nickel restaurant on December 15. However, the restaurant was closed and only the library was open serving bar snacks. No reservations were honored and it was packed. It was also extremely understaffed and we could not get a table so we went elsewhere. This was disgraceful and I won't go here again despite being a regular pre-theater patron previously.

Restaurant wasn’t open even though we had a confirmed reservation. Left us scrambling to get a reservation elsewhere.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. Made a pre-theater reservation here - when we arrived, discovered that the restaurant was only serving “bar bites”, there was no seating available and no reservations were being honored. Apparently due to a “technical issue”. No-one from the restaurant bothered to email or call, or come and explain/apologize when we arrived - they left the poor woman on hotel reception to deal with the issue. I was told the restaurant assistant manager would come talk to us - he didn’t, he just walked off. Absolute disgrace. Needless to say we did not stay and won’t be back.

Hi Kate, I am truly sorry to hear about the technical issue with our reservation system, which unfortunately led to your booking being placed on a night when we are not typically open for full service dining. We also regret that your experience with our food did not meet your expectations. We take great care in crafting our dishes, and we’re sorry we missed the mark during your visit. We would love the chance to welcome you back and provide the experience you were hoping for. If you’re willing to give us another opportunity, please email me directly and we’ll make sure your next visit is everything you expect and more. Thank you for your understanding, and we hope to see you again soon. Best regards, Taylor Trenda Food & Beverage General Manager

This restaurant is actually under construction, and the only seating and service is in the bar and lounge area. The staff says they actually aren't taking reservations, but apparently, OpenTable didn't get the memo. As a service to and for patrons, you need to get your act together with the restaurant.

Hi Roger, Thank you so much for sharing this feedback with us. It sounds like you came on the night that we had a major technical issue without reservation system allowing guests to book with us on a night that we only offer bar seating. I'm very sorry that you experienced this issue on the night that you came. Rest assured, the glitch has been resolved. I would love an opportunity to invite you and your joiners back so that w can show you how we've improved. If you don't mind emailing me, I would love to set that up for you! Thanks you again for this helpful feedback and my sincerest apologies for the misunderstanding. Best, Taylor Trenda Food & Beverage General Manager

Not sure why OpenTable let us book this reservation when the restaurant isn’t open on Sundays. Apparently it’s under construction so it’s bar seating/bar food in the lounge only. We were short on time and options so we stayed and ended up paying over a $100 for a poorly cooked burger, two appetizers and a couple of drinks. Absolutely absurd for the poor quality of food and exceptionally slow service.
