The Smoking Goat is an award-winning California-French bistro located in the heart of North Park, San Diego. We have received the Gold Medallion for the best French Bistro in San Diego three years running.

Inspired by his European Farm-to-Table up-bringing and culinary training at Le Cordon Bleu Paris, Executive Chef and Owner Fred Piehl, marries classic French cuisine with the bounty of San Diego in a way that is rustic, yet refined, imaginative, yet unpretentious.

The dinners served feature in-season local, sustainable and organic ingredients and provide guests with a unique culinary experience, reminiscent of the European countryside.

Boasting a carefully selected wine and beer list and chef and bartender attention to select spirits to create craft house cocktails, The Smoking Goat assures there is always the correct pairing available.

We ordered the cauliflower appetizer to share and it was delicious I wasn’t a fan of the cheese (mixed on)I believe it was a feta but not sure. Everyone else liked it. I had the duck entree and requested it cooked medium well and it was perfect! The bananas foster is killer good as is the crème brûlée!!!

Overall, the experience was pleasant. The energy was high; the noise level was moderate; the service was good. It was an eclectic ambiance, approximating a European bistro, but a bit too crowded and noisy if you're looking to experience an intimate, romantic environment. This was our first time at the Smoking Goat, so can only judge the food based on our limited exposure. The pear salad was very good; the mussel appetizer was tasty; the wild mushroom linguine entree was rich, creamy and very good; the salmon entree, while having a generous filet of salmon was a disappointment. The fish was over cooked, resulting in a dry texture, lacking the succulent moistness expected when this fatty treasure is expertly prepared.

Dinner for 4 on Sunday was great, we ordered the salmon, two orders of pork chops and the chicken. The family raved about the food. It is great having a restaurant that has reliably great food and service quality when you want your evening to be seamless.

Enjoyed our meal but did not appreciate being sat in tent covered patio….cold! Would have liked to have been informed at time of reservation. Not quite the atmosphere expected for that price. Service is outstanding.

We’ve been to The Smoking Goat numerous times over the years and we’ve never been disappointed. It’s pricey AF but it’s worth it. A great place for a special occasion or just to celebrate life, friends or family. The Escargot is always on point. I had the Duck this visit and it was delicious! The Steak Frites is always a winner if you love Truffle fries and a good steak. The Pork Chop was phenomenal this visit as well. The menu does change seasonally, but we’ve never had anything we didn’t like. The cocktails are equally complimentary. I recommend the French 75… so tasty I had 2. Adam was our server this time and he was flawless and very attentive to our needs.

Ambient sound level was good, easy to have a conversation. Full bar and good wine by the glass choices. Service was excellent. Food was rich, very French, but very good - nice portions. We started with the grilled octopus which was served with a nice arugula salad and a yummy sauce on the side. Dinner was the pork chop, very flavorful and cooked perfectly, and the mushroom linguine, also very well prepared
