Located in the Old Engine House on the edge of York's Museum Gardens in a riverside setting close to the historic Lendal Bridge, The Star Inn The City has an enviable position, which we aim to match with the best produce God's Own Country has to offer and genuine Yorkshire hospitality for the 'whole package'.

We offer an all day menu which can be enjoyed for both lunch and dinner, as well as serving up breakfast Friday to Sunday, and on Sunday's we serve up our famous Sunday roasts between 12-4pm.

We pride ourselves on being a a food-led celebration destination, with guests being able to enjoy view of the River Ouse from our Garden Room or outside on our riverside terrace. For more intimate occasions we also offer two exclusive Private Dining rooms for celebrations such as graduations, weddings and birthdays.

The food was sublime. The atmosphere was great. The service was excellent. We will be returning in the summer! Our waitress was attentive and very friendly. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

To be honest we were very disappointed as we expected the food quality & range to n similar to the Star at Harome. We didn’t check reviews prior to booking It was average standard food but expensive for the quality. The restaurant felt like a chain - even though it’s not We would my go again or recommend to others & it’s put us off going to the Star at Harome again

Steak was cooked really well, but was an average piece of meat. The desert was OK but nothing special. In the end, we paid £175 for a two person meal and it was probably… disappointing. Sorry.

Great menu, had messaged to say friend was vegan with nut allergy and they were prepared to say which options were available, great wine pairings also

We really loved the ambience of the restaurant, the food was excellent, and the staff attentive without being intrusive. At the end of the evening, the young man who got our bill took the time to have a lovely chat with us, which was very sweet. We would recommend a visit.

Arrived an hour before our lunch booking and were seated with no problem. Ordered from the market menu, 3 delicious courses with a glass of fizz. Super efficient and polite staff, great ambiance. My 2nd visit, won’t be the last. Definitely a ‘go to’ destination in York for lunch or dinner
